There are two major "fast gun" radio-controlled model warship combat clubs in the US:

Model Warship Combat (www.mwci.org)

They have tons of information on their site including pictures and video, how-to resources for building the ships, lists of events and local contacts all over the country.

International R/C Warship Combat Club (www.ircwcc.org)

Founded in 1978, this is the orignal model boat combat club.  Predominantly active in the northeast US, they are a fun group of guys (and gals) with an active battle season throughout the year.
